How YOU Can Help In This Election

Saturday, September 4, 2010

But What Can I Do?

The two most important ways we can each help in this campaign is to:

(1) volunteer to knock on doors and/or
(2) to call people on the phone.

There is no substitution to finding out first hand where the votes for our candidates are and how strong they are. The candidate, in turn, can use this valuable information to plan his/her next step, his/her next event, his/her next strategy, his/her next move, and where his/her next vote will be. So, how well the candidate does in his/her campaign depends on what we find out.

Now, these two options may not fit well in your comfort zone, but sometimes we discover who we really are by doing what we really donʼt want to do. Take a chance and give it a try. I know from first-hand experience it will be the most valuable and rewarding work you do for your candidate.

There are other choices, too - and they, too, serve a purpose:

(3). Ask a friend or neighbor to volunteer - often people are very willing to help, but no "one ever asks.
(4). Help us set up a wireless printer in our office
(5). Donate an unused computer
(6). Deliver signs
(7). Write letters to the editor - weʼll provide everything you need
(8). Paint signs - watch for sign painting times
(9). Bring paint rollers, zip ties, blue and white paint, stencils
(10). Help place signs along major highways
(11). Provide water and/or soda for office workers and volunteers
(12). Invite your friends to a "political party" to discuss the elections
(13). Place a sign in your yard
(14). Assemble signs
(15). Donate ink cartridges for our printer
(16). Volunteer to work in the office - whenever, for an hour, two hours!
(17). Bring nonperishable snacks for staff and volunteers
(18). Help with literature drops - and get some exercise - all at the same time!
(19). Host a fundraising party for your favorite candidate
(20). Talk to one person a day about voting for Democratic candidates
(21). Help fund your candidateʼs campaign - $ are important
(22). Organize a postcard writing tea - urging friends and neighbors to vote
(23). Give us five names of people willing to volunteer
(24). Volunteer to organize any of these options
(25). Pledge to vote in the primary and the general election

Remember, if we wait for someone else to do any of the options above, the election will be over and we will be on the outside looking in, wondering what more we could have done!
