Passenger Rail in Wisconsin
Takes a Big Step Forward
$800 million in
federal dollars for Madison-Milwaukee route is
critical first step in Wisconsin’s passenger
rail plans
MADISON – The following
is a statement from Senator Pat Kreitlow
(D-Chippewa Falls) on the announcement that
Wisconsin will receive over $800 million in
federal aid to begin construction of a high
speed passenger rail system between Milwaukee
and Madison:
“Today’s announcement is a
critical step forward in Wisconsin’s long term
passenger rail plan and it should be applauded
my friends and neighbors who have been working
hard to bring passenger rail to the Chippewa
Valley. This announcement says high speed
rail is real and coming, and now that the
funding is secure for the Milwaukee to Madison
route, the focus turns to how best to continue
that connection to the Twin Cities. I
strongly believe that route should go through
the Chippewa Valley. I applaud our
federal legislators, including Congressman Dave
Obey, and Governor Doyle for making this
happen. I am excited to work with both of
them to ensure that the next step in the
process includes an eventual Chippewa Valley
route to the Twin Cities and beyond.”
