During a ceremony at the state capitol on Dec.
1, 2009, Governor Jim Doyle signed several
important pieces of legislation authored and
championed by three area legislators. The
bills authored by Senator Pat Kreitlow
(D-Chippewa Falls), Representative Jeff Smith
(D-Eau Claire) and Representative Kristen
Dexter (D-Eau Claire) include legislation
designed to protect Wisconsin workers, clean up
Supreme Court campaigns and crack down on puppy
mills. All three bills are the product of
constituent outreach, legislative compromise,
and bipartisan consensus. The bill
signings demonstrate the growing impact the Eau
Claire area legislators have in the
Capitol. (Releases from the legislators
on each bill are attached)
That
influence and leadership will be important as
legislative Democrats continue their work on
job creation and economic development in
Wisconsin.
Sen. Kreitlow is the author
of the Wisconsin C.O.R.E. Jobs Act, a
comprehensive economic development package that
builds on successful job creation programs and
capitalizes on the strengths of our
state. C.O.R.E. stands for
Connecting Opportunity, Research and
Entrepreneurship. Both Rep. Dexter and
Rep. Smith are cosponsors of the C.O.R.E. Jobs
initiative.
Assembly Democrats
developed the Partnership for a Stronger
Economy (PSE), to help improve the business
environment in Wisconsin and examine economic
opportunities in our state. The PSE is a
bipartisan coalition committed to establishing
a long-term, strategic dialogue among diverse
group of job creators and representatives from
worker training hubs, economic development
groups, educational institutions and labor
organizations.
The Chippewa Valley legislators
will continue to advance the shared interests
of western Wisconsin and Eau Claire area
families.
